New setback for Bamboo Airways as bank account frozen

Bamboo Airways’ bank accounts have been frozen due to unpaid taxes amounting to VND102.5bn dong (USD4.2m).

The tax agency has seized the debt from the accounts of Tre Việt Aviation Joint Stock Company, Bamboo Airways’ legal name.

The frozen accounts are held in three different banks, and the banks have been asked to extract money from Bamboo’s accounts and transfer it to the authority. Once the tax debt is paid, the accounts will be unblocked.

Bamboo Airways has faced challenges, including management changes and fleet restructuring, since the arrest of its former chairman in March 2022. The airline dismissed bankruptcy rumours and stated that it has a plan to ensure payment obligations with the province in November. The delay in tax payments was attributed to prioritizing customer needs.
