Wicklow Gaol will remain closed for Halloween due to essential renovations. A Conservation Management Plan will guide improvements to maintain its tourism value.
Initial works will address leaks, repairs, and external maintenance. A procurement process is underway to select a new operator for the site.
The gaol is expected to reopen within months, in time for the summer tourist season.
Emer O’Gorman shared: “On behalf of Wicklow County Council, I would like to thank Wicklow Enterprise Centre for looking after the gaol over the last years.”
“We are now working to have the gaol ready to maximise its various opportunities to the benefit of the community, the town and the county.”
Melanie Corrigan shared: “The community and various stakeholders, including Wicklow County Tourism, Wicklow Chamber of Commerce and Wicklow Historic Gaol CLG, have provided ongoing support during this transitional period.”
