Not just Aer Lingus: aviation strike action in six other countries (including Italy today)

A nationwide strike action planned by airport workers in various Italian airports today will affect flights and causing disruptions. 

Potential strike action is threatening air services to five other countries over the next fortnight, as well as the ongoing work to rule by IALPA which ahs caused the cancellation of Aer Lingus flights 

  • England: London Gatwick Airport staff to strike from 12-14 July and 18-21 July, affecting security and passenger services, with potential further disruptions if the pay dispute is not resolved. 
  • France: Threat of strikes by CGT-RATP union members in Ile-de-France bus and metro network from 5 February to 9 September, potentially affecting the Paris Olympics, with a bill proposed to ban transport strikes during major events.
  • Netherlands: Public transport strikes are planned in Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam on 12 September, with more walkouts possible ahead of the Cabinet’s budget proposal to allow early retirement for workers in physically demanding roles.
  • Scotland: Union members at Glasgow and Aberdeen airports are considering strike action over pay, which could impact security processing.
  • Türkiye: Air traffic controllers at Antalya airport in Türkiye are on strike over pay and working conditions, causing significant delays in arrivals and departures until 14 July.
