Outbound travel from Ireland up 6.2pc in summer 2024 as business travel declines – CSO

Outbound overnight travel saw 4.2m trips in Q3 2024, up 6.2pc on the same period in 2023, with holiday trips rising while business trips and visits to friends or relatives declined.

In Q3 2024, Irish residents spent a total of 28.4m nights on outbound trips, primarily for holiday purposes, which comprised 74pc of the total nights.

Visits to friends or relatives accounted for 22pc of the nights, while business travel represented only 2pc.

The average length of stay for outbound overnight trips remained consistent, at 6.8 nights in Q3 2024, slightly down from 6.9 nights in the same period of the previous year.
