PIA ceased operating flights over Indian airspace on April 27, 2025, due to rising tensions following a terrorist attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22.

The airline’s flights from Islamabad International and Lahore International to Kuala Lumpur International are now rerouted through China, extending flight times by approximately three hours.

A PIA spokesperson shared, “The decision to avoid overflying [India] is just a precautionary measure, even though there is no NOTAM on the matter.”

Kuala Lumpur remains PIA’s sole scheduled eastbound destination, with two weekly flights from Islamabad and one weekly flight from Lahore.

Following the April 22 attack, India implemented several retaliatory measures against Pakistan, including revoking all visas and suspending the Indus Water Treaty.
