The Sunday parade will start at Capel Street at 3:30 PM, showcasing an eclectic procession with roller skaters, dancers, and participants like Proud Vulva Brigit’s and the Macushla Dance Club 50+, culminating in a tribute to inspiring women.
On February 3, Meeting House Square will host the Imbolc Fair from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM, featuring a DJ session, workshops, and crafting activities led by local artists, including Dublin Tufting and Damn Fine Print.
This year’s celebration invites all to embrace the spirit of Brigit, focusing on diversity, creativity, and the collective strength of women in the community, supported by Dublin City Council and the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Aimée Van Wylick festival director shared: Brigit, the Celtic goddess, is a really special event to work on. It’s been running for four years and takes its inspiration from the Celtic Goddess. It looks beyond Saint Brigit, going back in time while also seeing Brigit through a contemporary lens. Brigit is so multifaceted, and a lot of women can identify with that. Brigit, the Celtic goddess, stands for poetry, wisdom and scholars, nature, environment, land, magic, healing, and reproductive rights.
It’s fantastic to programme a festival that way because Brigit has so many elements to connect with. We have varied activities, like Brigit Shine projections at the GPO and Bernardo Square over four nights—Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Paula McGlynn, an award-winning illustrator, will create her piece called “Brigit Spring Rising,” connecting nature. We also have the creative duo Jill and Jill, who created a modern icon vision of Brigit called “Brigit, Boundless and Radical.” Their work will be projected on two facades.
The parade is really special for us. Although I prefer to call it a celebration, this programme has been running for four years and still feels young. There’s real enthusiasm for it, especially among women who feel it’s about time that the Celtic Goddess Brigit is celebrated. There are also workshops where you can learn to make a Saint Brigit’s Cross, connecting ancient times to Christian traditions. We have a flower crown workshop and lots of different activities.
We also have an Imbolc fair on Monday at Meeting House Square, where you can get a print made by Damn Fine Print of the Jill and Jill Brigit icon. We have an event called “Brigit’s Table,” exploring Brigit’s food and drink connection through tales and tasting.
