A delay in lifting the Dublin Airport passenger cap has emerged after the Aircraft Noise Competent Authority decided it requires a noise assessment before two planning applications can be considered.

A spokesperson for the DAA expressed concerns that the additional assessment could lead to a 12-month delay in the decision.

The noise assessment cannot be submitted until the outcome of a separate decision to an Bórd Pleanála.

The DAA’s recent “no build” planning application aims to increase the cap from 32 million to 36 million passengers annually.

Fingal County Council contends that required information for a separate capacity increase to 40 million passengers has been outstanding since March 2024.
