Pegasus Airlines, which launched a new 3w route from Dublin to Ankara yesterday, is considering a new aircraft order for narrowbody jets to be delivered post-2029, following a previous order of thirty-six A321-200neo aircraft in 2023.
The airline’s plans include acquiring 64 new Airbus single-aisle jets by 2029, aiming to cater to increased demand and expand capacity. No definitive timeline has been set for the announcement of a new order.
Pegasus Airlines currently operates a fleet of 107 aircraft, including a mix of Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737-800 narrowbodies. The airline anticipates aircraft deliveries as per its schedule, but delays have affected summer season plans.
Despite leaning towards a single manufacturer fleet strategy, Pegasus Airlines values having two separate OEMs to mitigate delivery delays. The airline’s financial performance faces challenges, with a reported TRY3.5bn Turkish lira (€336m) net loss in the first quarter of 2024 sparking concerns over sustainability.
Pegasus chairman, Mehmet Nane, told an Aviation Club event in London: “we are losing money. We have seen a 5pc erosion in gross margin in three years. This is not sustainable.”
