Sabiha Gökçen (March 22, 1913 – March 22, 2001) was one of the first female pilots in Turkey, recognised as the world’s first female combat pilot and was one of the eight adopted children of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Throughout her flying career, she completed around 8,000 flying hours and participated in thirty-two different military operations. Istanbul’s second airport was named in her honour.
