Air Canada pilots approved a tentative agreement with a 67% vote in favour, securing a nearly 42pc cumulative wage increase over four years, effective immediately.

Despite the significant wage hike, around one-third of pilots voted against the deal, indicating concerns over scheduling, quality of life, and disparities in pay between newer and more experienced pilots.

The agreement, reached after more than a year of negotiations, prevents a strike that could have led to 670 flight cancellations and impacted 110,000 passengers daily.

Union leaders emphasized the deal’s benefits for both pilots and the airline, aiming to restore losses from the past two decades while ensuring flexibility for future growth; the contract is retroactive to September 2023 and will last until September 2027.
