
A survey by Tourism Ireland shows 33pc of visitors to Ireland choose to visit for its scenery, while others are attracted by its culture, sightseeing, and history.
Research by Tourism Ireland surveyed over 8,000 holidaymakers from various countries, with 70pc expressing interest in visiting Ireland.
Barriers to travel include competition from other destinations, weather concerns, and perceived travel costs.
Visitor numbers to Ireland dropped by 25pc in January 2025 compared to January 2024, with spending also down nearly 28pc.
The new St Patrick’s Day campaign aims to attract over 100,000 visitors and promote Ireland as an ideal destination through social media and events.
Alice Mansergh shared: “We see a softer start this year,” Tourism Ireland said. “Influencing factors include cost for consumers, as well as air access, in an uncertain macroeconomic environment. The good news is that once we bring holidaymakers to Ireland, two thirds of them then help spread the word, through recommendations, stories and photography shared with family and friends, with Ireland ranked by visitors as more ‘Instagramable’ than the average destination.”
