Réalt na Mara Shellfish has been launched as a new tour and tasting experience in Cromane, County Kerry.
The project received a €10,000 grant from the FLAG Southwest Coastal Communities Development Scheme. A converted container unit served as a visitor centre with a multimedia hub and shop. The business expected to double visitor numbers and increase revenue by 40pc within 18 months.
It supplied premium purified mussels and oysters and won the Seafood Producer of the Year award in 2022 and 2024.
Minister of State Timmy Dooley shared, “FLAG funding is designed to strengthen coastal communities, and Réalt na Mara Shellfish is a perfect example of that vision in action. This funding will help keep communities alive. The FLAG programme is delivering tangible benefits by supporting businesses like Réalt na Mara Shellfish to expand, with a ripple effect to the local economy.”
