England’s government has released the ‘Future of Flight’ action plan, aiming to have regular flying taxi services by 2028 alongside advancements in drone and electric aircraft technology.

The plan outlines the goal of piloted flying taxi flights starting in 2026 and regular services by 2028, as well as regular drone deliveries by 2027 and autonomous flying taxi demos by 2030.

Drone technology is expected to boost the local economy by £45bn by the end of the decade, with potential benefits for sectors like the police and healthcare.

Initiatives such as Virgin Atlantic’s partnership with Vertical Aerospace for short-haul eVTOL flights, and Urban-Air Port’s eVTOL hub in Coventry, indicate growing interest and investment in electric aircraft technology in England.
