US regional aviation to be reshaped by merger between Republic and Mesa airlines

0

Regional airlines Republic Airways and Mesa Airlines finalised their merger on 25 November 2025, creating Republic Airways Holdings as the second-largest US regional operator behind SkyWest.

The all-stock deal saw Republic shareholders retain 88pc ownership, while Mesa’s debt was cleared and its shares underwent a reverse split. The combined entity now manages nearly 280 Embraer E170 and E175 aircraft, supporting around 1,250 daily flights for United Express, Delta Connection, and American Eagle networks.

This consolidation promises operational efficiencies, better crew management, and enhanced financial flexibility to invest in fleet upgrades and adapt to industry shifts, ultimately aiming to optimise returns for shareholders in a competitive market.
