Romania’s Tarom unable to replay state guaranteed loans

It has been reported that Romania’s Tarom cannot repay its state-guaranteed loan.

The flag carrier for Romania has a fleet of three A318, six ATR 42/72, four B737-700 and four B737-800, two of which are leased from Dublin based BVOC aviation.

The flag carrier and oldest currently operating airline of Romania is based in Otopeni near Bucharest and operates from Henri Coandă International Airport.

It is the largest airline operating in Romania based on international destinations and international flights.

Tarom is owned primarily by the Romanian Government, with over 97pc ownership.

The company joined the SkyTeam alliance in 2010 and transported 2.75m passenegrs pre pandemic.

Tarom received state aid of €65m during the pandemic.
