Roscrea Castle and Damer House in Tipperary have fully re-opened after a costly three-year repair and upgrade programme.

Minister Patrick O’Donovan of the Office of Public Works (OPW) officially opened the Heritage properties on April 3.

Damer House, a pre-Palladian house, is a key part of the visitor experience with art, furniture, and guided tours available.

Repair works at Damer House included fixing window boxes, sandstone surrounds, mechanical/electrical upgrades, and enhancements to the property’s facilities.

The addition of new lighting features and new heating measures have greatly improved comfort levels for both staff and visitors. New distribution boards were installed as well as the introduction of a new CCTV security system.

The Castle and Damer House were closed to visitors to facilitate the upgrade. The Roscrea Castle complex reopened to the public on June 22, 2023, with guided tours of the castle, Damer House, the grounds, garden and the Blackmills – a restored mill within a short distance from the complex.
