Ryanair plans to reduce one aircraft from 2-aircraft base in Madeira over airport charges

Ryanair has announced plans to reduce one aircraft from its two-aircraft base in Madeira and decrease capacity and traffic in Faro and Porto for summer 2024.

This decision is in response to ANA’s (the French-owned airport group) decision to raise airport fees by up to 17pc from 2024, affecting airports in Lisbon (+17pc), Faro (+12pc), Porto (+11pc), Azores (+9pc), and Madeira (+6pc).

Ryanair believes that these significant fee increases will negatively impact tourism and jobs in Portugal, particularly in the island economies of Madeira and the Azores.

Ryanair has already experienced the consequences of these fee hikes, as they have decided to close their base in Ponta Delgada for the winter of 2023/2024
