Ryanair is contemplating further cuts to flights from medium and small Spanish airports for the winter season and into 2026 if Aena does not decrease its fees.

Eddie Wilson, the CEO of Ryanair, remarked that regional airports require low fees to drive growth, warning that without such strategies “the formula will not work.”

Earlier this year, Ryanair announced a reduction of flights at seven regional Spanish airports and the cancellation of around 800,000 passenger seats compared to last year.

Despite these reductions, the airline increased capacity by 1.5 million seats at larger hubs like Madrid, Malaga, and Alicante.

Aena’s spokesperson refrained from commenting on the matter, although the organisation previously labelled Ryanair’s claims as “spurious,” asserting that their fees are among the lowest available in the region.Eddie Wilson shared:  “Regional airports need low fees to stimulate growth. The formula will not work if investment in loss-making operations will not occur
