Amsterdam Schiphol will increase its airport charges by 14.8pc next year, higher than the previously expected 12pc, citing lost income in 2022.
The airport attributes the increase to reduced revenue during the pandemic, as travel restrictions in 2022 resulted in fewer flights.
Schiphol emphasizes that it is not allowed to make a profit from airport charges, and the funds received are dedicated to services used by airlines, such as maintenance, security, and cleaning.
CFO Robert Carsouw stated that the estimated reduction in flight numbers due to security staff shortages was not included in the calculations, resulting in a lower increase in charges.
Schiphol recently announced a temporary cap on flight movements in 2024 to address noise pollution and environmental concerns. JetBlue’ was denied slots for its transatlantic services to Amsterdam next year because of these capacity cuts.
