A £15m programme of repairs and upgrades is set for the West Highland Line, which connects Glasgow to Oban, Fort William, and Mallaig.

The project includes replacing around 10 km (6.2 miles) of rail and 9,100 sleepers, with some disruption expected from the evening of 7 November to the morning of 17 November. Upgrades also involve improving drainage, refurbishing structures, and renewing a bridge near Corrour station, a location featured in the film Trainspotting.

Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland, acknowledged the investment’s importance for safety, reliability, and the benefits to local communities and tourism. ScotRail service delivery director Mark Ilderton noted that rail replacement transport will be in place during the work, urging passengers to plan ahead for travel options.
