The Sea Life aquarium in Bray, Co Wicklow, will be closing in December after being open for 25 years.
The decision to close was described as difficult, and the focus now is on finding suitable homes for the animals and supporting 20 staff with career opportunities.
Local politicians called upon Wicklow County Council, Fáilte Ireland, and relevant State agencies to assist in reversing the decision.
