Seán Canney, members of the independent alliance, has served as Teachta Dála (TD) for Galway East since assuming office in February 2016.
He held ministerial roles between 2016 and 2020, focusing on public expenditure, rural development, and community affairs.
Canney previously campaigned for the reopening of the Western Rail Corridor connecting Galway to Claremorris.
He was re-elected in the February 2020 and 2024 General Elections, continuing his involvement in the Regional Group of Independents.
