Shannon Airport has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 2m passengers in 2024, marking the first time the airport has reached this number since 2009, thanks to a thriving summer season.

The airport’s increased capacity and strategic route expansions, including 200,000 additional seats over the summer and 30,000 extra seats added by Ryanair for the winter, have played a crucial role in its success and connectivity to major destinations.

The resumption of Delta Airlines’ daily seasonal service from New York/JFK in May 2024 addresses strong demand for direct flights to the West of Ireland, and the airport is celebrating its milestone with a social media competition for pairs of return tickets to JFK.

Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, attributed this success to the airport’s dedicated team and its focus on providing seamless travel experiences, expressing optimism for continued growth in 2025: “We are delighted to see continued growth in passenger numbers this year. Shannon Airport’s prime location on the Wild Atlantic Way, combined with our dedication to providing a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, continues to attract travellers from around the world. Our dedicated staff are ready to extend a festive, warm Shannon welcome to all passengers this Christmas season.”
