Silversea has officially opened The Cormorant at 55 South in Puerto Williams, Chile, establishing it as the southernmost hotel on Earth. Built as a dedicated land-based gateway for the cruise line’s Antarctica Fly Cruise programme, the 150-room luxury property allows expedition passengers to bypass the Drake Passage in greater comfort. The hotel opened on 5 November 2026.
The hotel was built using modular construction with the 150 rooms fabricated in Mendoza, Argentina, and transported across the Andes and Patagonia. Rooms feature Beagle Channel water vistas or Patagonian forest views. The hotel houses an on-site gear provisioner and biosecurity station where guests can fit polar parkas, clean personal gear and attend expedition briefings.
Guests on Silversea’s Antarctica Fly Cruise expeditions fly from Santiago to Puerto Williams on Silversea-branded charter flights, overnight at the hotel and take a short flight across the Drake Passage to King George Island to board their ship. The property anchors 29 Antarctica Fly Cruise voyages through March 2027 across Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind and Silver Cloud.
