Stormont Economy and Tourism Minister, Conor Murphy, has announced funding of GBP£1.018m to ensure the continuity of flights from City of Derry Airport (CoDA) to London Heathrow. The route, crucial for connecting the north-west to London, is jointly funded by the Department for Transport and the Department for the Economy.
The funding will support airline Loganair in operating 20 return flights per week starting from April 1, 2024, for one year. The route, established in May 2017 under a Public Service Obligation (PSO) granted by the Westminster Department of Transport, serves as a vital link for work and business travel.
Minister Conor Murphy emphasizes the importance of the route for enabling people to travel for work and business, safeguarding jobs for airport workers, and contributing to the economic development of the North West region.
City of Derry Airport Managing Director, Steve Frazer, highlights the significance of the connectivity to London Heathrow for the region’s economic growth, business opportunities, and tourism. The secured route will enhance regional connectivity, support inward investment, and contribute to the economic prosperity of the North West. Efforts will continue to strengthen the airport’s role in driving growth and development in the region.
