Lufthansa expects “significant disruptions” to its flight programme on February 7-8 due to a strike called by the Ver.di union. Six rotations out of Dublin have been cancelled.

Passengers with flights scheduled for these dates will receive notifications of cancellations and rebooking options via email or the Lufthansa app.

If flights are cancelled without suitable alternatives, passengers can often convert their tickets to Deutsche Bahn train tickets free of charge.

The strike is part of an ongoing pay dispute, with the union demanding a 12.5pc raise or a minimum increase of €500 per month for nearly 25,000 Lufthansa ground staff.

The strike will affect airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Düsseldorf, and is scheduled to last for 27 hours starting at 4 am on February 7.

Passengers are advised to check for updates regularly and follow instructions from Lufthansa regarding rebooking and alternative travel arrangements.

Ver.di, a German union, recently organized strikes by security workers at major airports and public transportation workers, resulting in flight cancellations and disruptions to local transport.

The strikes are part of contract negotiations and involve demands for better working conditions and shorter working weeks.

The train drivers’ union, GDL, has halted strikes temporarily for further negotiations with Deutsche Bahn, the state-owned railway operator, until at least 3 March.
