Sixty Ryanair passengers scheduled to fly from Lanzarote to Ireland West Airport on Wednesday missed their flight due to delays at the passport control station, which was reportedly short-staffed.

Many passengers had to book alternative flights for Wednesday evening, with some unable to fly home until Thursday evening, resulting in unexpected accommodation expenses.

Ryanair attributed the missed flight to passport control delays at Lanzarote, stating that passengers who did not present at the boarding gate before it closed would not be allowed to board.

Ireland West Airport acknowledged the situation and offered assistance to affected passengers while emphasizing that they have no control over operations at other airports, and no additional charges would be imposed for overstaying parking at the airport.

Donal Healy of Knock “we are aware of the situation – whilst we don’t have all the information to hand surrounding the exact circumstances of what caused the issue, the airport has no control unfortunately over what happens at other airports. We don’t have access to passenger details who travel with Ryanair so we are extremely limited in what we can do to assist. We are of course assisting all passengers who have parked vehicles at the airport ensuring they can collect them when they return and no extra charges will be imposed for any overstays. We are on hand of course to assist in any means possible where we can.”
