South Africa has officially appointed John Lamola as group chief executive of South African Airways, solidifying his interim role lasting nearly three years and triggerng a political storm.

The Democratic Alliance has filed a complaint against Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Transport Minister Barbara Creecy for alleged political interference in the appointment process.

Initially, the SAA board had recommended Allan Kilavuka of Kenya Airways and Philip Saunders as leading candidates, but their exclusion has raised concerns over the selection’s transparency and integrity.

Rise Mzansi has called for a parliamentary investigation into the selection process, asserting that the incident underscores issues of governance and political maneuvering within South Africa.
