South Africa’s Federal Airlines pauses flights under new civil aviation regulations

Federal Airlines has paused flights to certain private game lodges until aerodromes meet new civil aviation regulations.

The regulatory changes became effective on March 28, 2025, as part of the 31st Amendment to the Civil Aviation Act.

FedAir stated that it will not operate flights to unlicensed runways, with owners responsible for compliance with the regulations.

The South African Air Traffic and Navigation Services has received approval for instrument flight procedures at major airports, enhancing safety and compliance.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy appointed an intervention team following significant flight disruptions due to issues with IFP submissions and compliance.
