South East Technological University (SETU) and Waterford Airport have partnered to establish a National Aerospace Academy focused on unmanned air vehicles.
An event named “Celebrating Aerospace” took place at SETU’s Carlow campus to showcase the university’s advancements in aerospace education and training.
SETU announced a new aviation postgraduate programme and an aircraft mechanic apprenticeship during the event, aiming to deliver high-quality education that meets global aviation standards.
The partnership with Waterford Airport aims to enhance regional aviation technology development and improve the airport’s compliance with European regulations.SETU’s head of the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Frances Hardiman, shared: “Having responded to a global opportunity and developed a comprehensive offering in aerospace education over the years, our aerospace team has positioned itself as an innovator in this field. SETU is at the forefront of aerospace education and training. By launching new programmes and forming strategic partnerships, we are ensuring that our graduates have the skills and expertise needed to meet the evolving demands of the aerospace industry.” Professor Campbell added: “The significance of our EASA compliance for apprenticeship delivery, as well as the rollout out of the new master of engineering in flight test engineering postgraduate programme, means that SETU is now providing a comprehensive range of pathways in aerospace education and training. “Our collaboration with Waterford Airport is perfectly placed and resourced to provide a strong research and development alliance in flight testing small aircraft and unmanned air vehicles.”
