Spain faces record year as visitors from Ireland rise by 13pc

A record 2,207,407 visitors travelled from Ireland to Spain over the first nine months of 2024, latest figures from the Spanish statistical institute show. 

This is 12.8pc ahead of 2023. The figure for September was 296,195, 11.1pc ahead of  last year.

Spain received 9.6m international tourists in September 2024,, marking a 9.1pc increase from September 2023.

Over the first nine months of 2024, international tourist arrivals reached a record 73.9m, a 10.9pc rise compared to the same period in the previous year. This is the highest figure since records began.

The demand for rental accommodations surged by 32.8pc, contributing to a total of 8.2m tourists opting for rented accommodation, while hotel stays saw a 4.6pc increase.

The top destinations for tourists were Illes Balears (22.4pc), Cataluña (21.2pc), and Andalucía (15.0pc), with visitor increases in all six main touristic regions compared to September 2023.
