Spain hosted a record 94m foreign tourists in 2024, up 10pc for the year and 13pc on pre-pandemic.

Just over 2.6m of those came from Ireland, up 11pc on 2023 and 21pc on pre-pandemic.

The tourism sector plays a crucial role in Spain’s economy, contributing approximately 13pc and generating about €126bn in spending. Spain is the world’s second most-visited country after France, which anticipates a new record of 101m in 2024, largely influenced by the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Cities like Barcelona and Malaga are implementing measures to regulate short-term rentals to address community grievances related to the housing market.

Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu said in Madrid that Spain continues to break records.
