Spain’s airport operator Aena expects to surpass 300m annual passengers across its Spanish airports by 2025.
The operator handled 283m passengers in 2023 and forecasts growth to 294m in 2024, 300m in 2025, and 310m in 2026.
Aena operates nearly 50 airports in Spain, has a stake in London Luton airport, and oversees a portfolio of 30 airports in Latin America. Last year it took control of the Block of Eleven Airports of Brazil (BOAB), including Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport, giving it control of a portfolio of more than 30 airports across Latin America.
The company anticipates handling over one million passengers daily worldwide by 2026, with an optimistic outlook fuelled by positive economic trends and a faster recovery in passenger traffic.
Ryanair contrasted Aena’s growth with that at Dublin airport in statement: AENA yesterday unveiled plans to accelerate its traffic growth by 10pc from 283m passengers in 2023 to 310m passengers by 2026. Over that same 4 years, Dublin Airport will stagnate under its 32m passenger cap, while Irish Transport Minister Eamon Ryan refuses to act.
