Stansted gets permission to extend terminal

London Stansted has been granted planning permission to extend its terminal building, with construction set to begin soon.

The three-bay extension will add 16,500m2 to the terminal to accommodate the airport’s growing capacity.

The extension aims to provide a more spacious departure lounge, additional shops, bars, and restaurants, state-of-the-art check-in desks, increased baggage capacity, and a larger security hall.

Managing Director Gareth Powell stated that the approved scheme will transform the airport experience and support the future capacity needs of London. It aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of airport journeys for passengers, boost competitiveness, and promote economic growth, jobs, and international connectivity for London and the East of England.
