Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) CEO Stephanie Pope highlighted the company’s focus on improving quality and stability in its factories during a media briefing before the Farnborough Airshow
Pope emphasized that safety, quality, and meeting commitments with a predictable schedule are not competing priorities at Boeing, all must be addressed simultaneously
Early signs of improvement have been observed due to the ongoing safety and quality plan, resulting in a significant improvement in the production flow of the 737
Boeing aims to increase the production rate of the 737 to 38 by the end of the year and return the production rate of the 787 to five a month over the same period, with efforts to enhance employee proficiency, simplify processes, reduce defects, and ensure predictable deliveries being key priorities for the company.
Stephanie Pope said “they have recognised that this is not minor changes; this is transformational change. Factories had been slowed down pretty significantly to execute that change and we’re doing that, to get back to being predictable in our deliveries. It is important that we make the right changes now so that we transform this business, and we don’t make incremental change and find ourselves having issues again in the future.”
