A vibrant urban art initiative is transforming rural Jaén into a must-visit destination for cultural travellers.

The Street Art Plus project, spearheaded by the provincial government, has created an open-air museum spanning 46 small municipalities, each featuring striking murals by local artists. Launched to combat depopulation and invigorate local economies, the route includes QR codes on each artwork that link to details about the creators, alongside information on nearby attractions, gastronomy, and heritage sites. In 2025, seven new murals were unveiled in towns like Albanchez de Mágina and Baños de la Encina, with nine more slated for completion in 2026 across places such as Mancha Real and Sabiote. Artists including Ana Corazón and Javier Aldarias have contributed pieces that blend contemporary themes with Andalusian traditions, drawing visitors to lesser-known areas
