Stuart Leven’s new role will include responsibility for Royal Caribbean International (BRITAIN  and Ireland) and Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises across the rest of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Leven will work with Royal Caribbean’s key European markets to ensure the cruise operator has the best investment in place to capitalise on the swell of interest in cruise holidays across the region.

Leven’s appointment comes as the cruise industry continues to ride a growing wave of popularity, with Royal Caribbean poised to expand its deployment in the region after the success of Harmony of the Seas in Europe this year. In 2015, nearly 6.6 million Europeans chose a cruise holiday over a land based holiday – with Europe one of the most popular destinations. With its wide choice of vibrant destinations, 608 million international cruise tourists arrived in 2015, accounting for more than 50pc of the tourism market share globally.

“We’ve seen the European cruise market grow 111pc in the last ten years and there has been over $17 billion of investment” said Leven. “As a business, Royal Caribbean is known for driving the industry forwards through creative innovation, industry-leading cruise ships, and extraordinary experiences. We have a fantastic opportunity to realise our potential in Europe and I’m delighted to be at the helm ahead of such an exciting journey”.
