The Council of the European Union has decided to relax sanctions on Syrianair following the government overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.
Syrianair’s removal from the sanctions list allows the airline to engage in energy, transport, and financial transactions.
Syrianair, which operates eight A320-200s and two A340-300s, had been sanctioned by the EU since 2012. Only two of its A320s are currently operational.
Cham Wings Airlines, Syria’s largest privately-owned airline, remains under EU sanctions despite the changes affecting the state-owned flag carrier.
