Thai Airways has announced an order for 45 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners as part of its efforts to modernise and expand its widebody fleet and international network.
The new Dreamliners will be equipped with GEnx engines to align with Thai Airways’ environmental goals and commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Boeing’s 2023 Commercial Market Outlook for Southeast Asia forecasts a significant growth in the region’s widebody fleet over the next 20 years, with demand expected to increase for aircraft like the 787 Dreamliner family and 777X, along with freighter models. Thai Airways currently operates a fleet of Airbus A350-900s, 777-300ERs, and existing 787-9s and 787-8s.
