Areas affected by the plan to remove traffic from Dublin city centre and the proposed changes include:

  • Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay: Only buses, taxis, cyclists, and pedestrians would be permitted along these quays. The removal of other traffic would create space for the planned Liffey Cycle Route and improve efficiency at the O’Connell Bridge junction.
  • Beresford Place and Gardiner Street: As a result of the changes on Pearse Street and Westland Row, Beresford Place could become two-way, and traffic on Gardiner Street would be reduced to two lanes to prioritize pedestrian and cycle safety. This change would also create an opportunity for a new public space extending from Liberty Hall to the Custom House.
  • College Green and Dame Street: Limited access is planned for this area, with traffic removal up to the junction with George’s Street. The aim is to turn College Green into a traffic-free area and transform it into a world-class public space, phased in conjunction with the BusConnects plan.
  • Parliament Street: Similar to Capel Street, traffic and public transport would be removed from Parliament Street, allowing only pedestrians and cyclists. Delivery access would be maintained, and a two-way cycle link across Grattan Bridge could be implemented.
  • South Quays: The south quay of the Liffey would be reserved for public transport, walking, and cycling only, with potential for a new boardwalk along it.
  • Westland Row and Pearse Street: Only public transport vehicles and cyclists would be permitted to turn left from Westland Row onto Pearse Street. This change would facilitate better cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and create a potential recreational space at Lincoln Place.
