‘Too dependent on US market’ – Irish Golf Tour Operators meet at Straffan

The annual conference of the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association has expressed concern over 72pc reliance on US golf tourism market.

The conference heard that green fees at trophy courses have risen 80pc in four years; Royal County Down and Royal Portrush reach £450 next year. Golf contributes €717m annually and supports 15,600 jobs. The conference at the K Club ins Straffan discussed diversification prospects to European markets. The industry awards recognised Dromoland Castle, Ardglass Golf Club, Tralee Golf Links and others.

Barry Maye shared “My belief is we’re too dependent on the American market. Certainly, we want to retain it and grow it if we can.”
