German and Austrian travel journalists have been cruising on the River Shannon, hosted by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
The journalists aim to learn more about cruising holidays on the Shannon and explore the region’s scenic beauty and attractions, with a combined readership of 1.12 million.
A key focus during the visit is the transition of 240 inland cruisers on the Shannon to environmentally sustainable HVO fuel, reducing carbon emissions by 92%, highlighting the eco-friendly aspect of cruising holidays.
The journalists embarked on their cruise from Carrick-on-Shannon, enjoying activities like a fishing lesson at Heron Cottage and visiting attractions such as the National Famine Museum Strokestown Park and Clonmacnoise, promoting Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands to their readers.
Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Germany said: “fact-finding visits like this are a really effective way for us to shine a spotlight on cruising on the Shannon and Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands – through their articles, the journalists will encourage their readers to come and experience this part of Ireland for themselves. “Our aim is to inspire German holidaymakers to come and discover this part of Ireland and enjoy a holiday which allows them to connect with nature and enjoy spectacular landscapes. A key message for Tourism Ireland is that cruising on the River Shannon is more eco-friendly than ever from this year, with the cruisers now using sustainable fuel.”
