Trinity College’s new Gaia display will be launched this evening in the latest stage of The Old Library Redevelopment Project.
The artwork showcases detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface in three dimensions.
The artist intended for Gaia to inspire discussions about the environment and promote sustainable lifestyles. Gaia is a representation of Earth in Greek mythology and aims to draw attention to the planet’s health.
Artist Luke Jerram said:, ‘l designed Gaia to prompt the difficult discussions we all need to have about the environment and what we, as individuals and wider society, can do to make our lifestyles more sustainable. And so, it is very fitting that Gaia will be displayed in Trinity College Dublin while the Old Library undergoes this landmark conservation project.”
