
Turkish airlines carried 83.4m passengers in 2023 to make it the fifth largest airline in Europe by passenger numbers and is aiming to expand its fleet to 800 aircraft by 2033 as part of its 100th anniversary.
The figure marks a 23.5pc increase in domestic capacity and a 16pc increase in international capacity compared to 2022.
While global international airline capacity lagged 12pc behind the 2019 figures in 2023, Turkish Airlines exceeded 2019 international capacity by 27pc, outperforming the industry as reported by IATA, while Istanbul Airport emerged as the leading European airport in terms of daily flights.
Turkish cargo reported a 16pc increase in freight ton kilometres compared to 2019, tripling its market share in the air freight market over the last decade and ranking fourth globally among air cargo carriers according to 2023 data from IATA.
Turkish Airlines increased its aircraft number by 12pc to 440 in 2023, despite challenges in aircraft procurement and production bottlenecks. Additionally, the airline actively supported relief efforts for natural disasters, humanitarian missions, and committed to achieving its 2033 targets, aiming to generate substantial value for stakeholders.
