The five-year planning permission for U2’s planned visitor centre and exhibition space in Dublin’s docklands has expired.
Permission was secured in 2019 by U2 firm, MHEC Ltd and businessman, Paddy McKillen Snr’s company, Golden Brook for the U2 visitor centre and exhibition space at Hanover Quay, which aimed to attract U2 fans from around the world and house memorabilia from the band’s history.
The centre had a target of 390,000 visitors a year contained exhibit spaces housing memorabilia from U2’s vast musical history including old guitars, performance outfits and paraphernalia from their past.
Despite receiving backing from Fáilte Ireland, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the Irish Hotels Federation and praise for its design, no work has been done on the ground since permission was granted
The U2 firm will need to submit a new planning application and make revisions to meet concerns of planners to advance the project within a short timeframe.
