Ryanair will open its case against the passenger cap today with a claim that the Irish Aviation Authority does not have the power to set a seat or slot limit in Dublin airport.
Documents lodged with the court claim Ryanair will have to relocate three aircraft away from Dublin, and will lose 3,300 slots representing 550k seats.
It says that 1,000 pf those slots will be lost forever and that this loss is likely “uncompensatable.”
The reduction will result in a €50m, force 90 job cuts, and prompt the airline to move its most fuel efficient aircraft away from Dublin. It will cost the Irish economy €125m.
Eoin Kealy, Ryanair’s director of competition and regulatory, stated that the summer cap will significantly impact the airline’s ability to operate its existing routes, leading to slot losses and future withdrawals.
Mr Kealy states that if the cap is not quashed, it will have “very significant financial, operational, and reputational impact on Ryanair in Summer 2025 and beyond.”
