Under-18s in Dublin’s commuter towns will benefit from a 67pc discount on public transport fares from today Monday, September 1. The new discounted fares bring outer suburban areas in line with existing discounts in the Dublin City Zone.
Youths using a weekly Leap product for journeys to Dublin city centre will see their fare decrease from €16 to €10.60, saving €5.40—or 33pc. The revised fares allow for continued travel into the city centre without extra charges for children coming from Zones 2, 3, and 4.
This initiative follows feedback from families and communities and aims to enhance affordability and accessibility of public transport for young people.
Jeremy Ryan Director of Public Transport Services at the NTA, shared: “We’ve heard from families and communities across the new commuter zones, and we’ve listened. By aligning child fare discounts across Zones 2, 3 and 4 with those in Dublin City, we’re making public transport more affordable and accessible for young people, wherever they live. It’s a meaningful step toward a more inclusive and connected transport network.”
