A study release by the European Travel Commission noted that Gen Z travellers are less likely to make summer travel plans, with planned trips for this demographic down 10pc compared to last year.

European travel plans overall are down by 3pc, with leisure trips expected to see an 8% drop compared to 2024 according to the survey.

European airlines first-quarter results set to issue in the coming weeks are likely to indicate economic uncertainty raising concerns over travel demand and earnings. Lufthansa releases reports on Tuesday and Air France-KLM on Wednesday.

Eduardo Santander of the European Travel Commission shared: “Over the past few years, Gen Z has generally been more cautious with their travel intentions, planning fewer trips than their older counterparts. We’ve also noticed a slight decline in pleasure trips.”

Ruairi Cullinane an analyst at RBC, shared, “The key risk is to demand and unit revenues, whilst an area of upside is from lower fuel prices.”
