United Airlines is sending customers live radar maps via text links to help them understand how inclement weather in one area can impact flights elsewhere.

United claims to be the first and only US airline providing passengers with links to radar maps in addition to other flight information such as gate changes and crew rescheduling.

The radar maps are available for all flights through the United app’s flight status update section, and displayed in gate areas when flights are delayed due to weather.

Other airlines, such as British Airways and Loganair, are also utilizing real-time weather apps and partnerships to improve forecasting and reduce flight emissions.
