United Airlines has asked its pilots to take unpaid time off in May due to recent delays in Boeing deliveries, which have led to reduced block hours for 2024.

The carrier is offering voluntary programs to reduce excess staffing, with confirmation from the United chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).

Inflight incidents and delays have affected United Airlines, prompting increased FAA oversight and potential certification delays for future projects.

The airline has adjusted its aircraft delivery plans for 2024, with uncertainties surrounding the delivery of 107 aircraft, including B737-9s. Boeing’s focus on the MAX 9 variant is expected to provide more predictable delivery timelines as United navigates through growth challenges.
